Principle of modal analysis
Thereby, a force is applied to one point of the structure to be investigated and at another point the response signal is detected. Hence, the transfer function is determined.
By measurement of several transfer functions at lots of points of the structure the vibrational modes can be determined. This information allows the description of the vibrational response of the structure between the measuring points.
Fields of Application of modal analysis
By using modal analysis, important knowledge can be obtained e. g. about:
- the expected sound emission of surfaces of structures (e. g. machines) and its prevention
- the functionality of machines
- the expected dynamic strain and the resulting material fatigue
