Microphone array measurements with acoustic camera
There are a lot of applications for the localization of sound sources with the help of a microphone array. Especially in the industry, for the development of vehicles, machines and devices this method can be of great use. Examples are among other things:
- Localization and separation of sound sources as a requirement for noise control for
- vehicles and their components, e. g. engine, transmission system, exhaust system, compartment
- placement machines and production machinery, machine tools
- generators and turbines
- power tools and electrical domestic devices, e. g. compressor, vacuum cleaner
- Analysis of sound sources as a basis for acoustic design for
- structures or scale-model structures in airflow in the wind tunnel, e.g. wing profile of an airplane, pantograph, side-view mirrors of cars
- complex vibrating structures, e. g. floor section of a car
- squealing or rattling structures, e. g. car brackets
- Determination of characteristic properties of sound sources and their source mechanisms for
- electroacoustic transducers, e. g. multi-channel loudspeaker
- aerodynamically influenced objects, e. g. antennas, roof systems
- Acoustic search for leakages in
- (vehicle-) doors, windows, etc.
- pipelines
Your advantages
During the development of the AcoustiCam®, great importance was attached to the optimization of the microphone array and the subsequent signal processing. This results in numerous advantages, for example:
- fast and robust measurements, at great distance as well as in close proximity to the test object due to the application of the robust beamforming algorithm
- separate localization and analysis of sound sources and source mechanisms
- localization results with high spatial resolution and great dynamic range due to optimized microphone configuration
- special test environment behind the microphone array usually not necessary due to the application of a so-called boundary layer array
