Calculation of transmission loss
To design mufflers effectually we carry out analytic modelings as well as numerical computations. Thereby the following effects are considered:
- fluid flow
- temperature gradient
- pressure drop
Subsequent to the acoustic design, without any constructive effort, first pre-measurements can be carried out by means of a specific muffler kit.
Acoustic design of exhaust silencers
In the case of specific mufflers for combustion engines, amongst other materials hollow metal sphere structures are applied as self-supporting sound absorber. In combination with alloys possessing a high heat-resistivity, this specific sound absorber can be applied in the direct vicinity of a catalytic converter that causes the exhaust gas to raise its temperature up to 1000 °C.
The innovative measuring system AcoustiTube® HighTemp allows the measurement of the transmission loss of exhaust silencers in situ for temperatures up to 600°C. The measurement results can be processed further using the software AcoustiCalc® Silencer, e.g. to calculate the effectiveness of a complete exhaustion system.
