Active Silencer for Cogeneration Units – ANC

The Gesellschaft für Akustikforschung Dresden mbH develops an active silencer (ANC) for the application in smoke pipe systems of cogeneration units (cogeneration plants for heat and power).

The english abbrivation ANC stands for Active Noice Cancellation and is often used together with the term anti noise, since for the reduction of airborne noise a so-called anti noise source is applied.

Advantages of active silencer system (ANC)

Previous measurements showed that the active silencer allows the efficient reduction of low frequency noise components in the exhaustion section of cogeneration units by up to 25 dB. In contrast to conventional passiv systems of silencers and muffler, the ANC system requires considerably less installation space.

The underlying digital signal processing makes sure that the anti-noise system continuously automatically adapts to noise emitted by the cogeneration unit. In contrast to passive resonance mufflers which acoustic efficiency strongly depends on the temperature of the flowing medium, with the active silencer garanties a reliable noise reduction is guaranteed at any time.
